🍕🎲 Toca do Rato — our night of pizza, games and inclusion

A themed restaurant born from a passion for board games — and now making room for greater accessibility.

Toca do Rato started as a service game loan and now he has his own house: a themed pizzeria where you can choose a game to play while the pizza bakes. We arrived curious—after all, few things go together as well as a good pizza, a big table, and an open board. 💛

Inside, the environment is very spacious, with comfortable circulation between the tables. There is a kids' corner small one that caught our attention because of a special detail: a giant embossed domino — a tactile feature that makes play more interesting for people with DV and for those who benefit from sensory stimulation 👋🧱. While the pizza was waiting, the table became a stage for laughter and quick games.

Spacious, themed lounge: handy games and a lighthearted atmosphere for the whole family. ✨

On the menu, the house highlights selected ingredients — such as Italian flour 100% — and offers non-alcoholic themed drinks 🥤. To complete, the values are accessible, which makes it easier to have that game night with the family without a big bill.

The game proposal is inclusive by nature: there are titles of low reading, quick matches, and cooperation—great for mediation with children, autistic people, and diverse groups. Among the ones we saw in the online collection, we highlighted some favorites: Monster Hunt (memory cooperative for the little ones 👾), The Forbidden Island (classic family co-op 🏝️), Scooby-Doo! Board Game (different roles in a team 🕵️), Smitten (cooperative microgame for 1–2 🫶), plus adventures like The Legends of Andor and the duo Chada & Thorn. For those who prefer something more visual and observational, MicroMacro works super well (it's worth regulating the level of stimulation), and classics of attention and pairing as Pictureka (cards) and games of memory are also great gateways. 🧠

What we found about accessibility ♿

There is adapted bathroom and visible care for corner protectors of the tables — both in the dining room and in the bathroom — which helps (a lot) with children and people with unsteady gait. Although there is a ladder in part of the space, it is possible to accommodate in the ground floor who have reduced mobility or use a wheelchair. On the facade, there are some parking spaces 🚗; it is perfectly feasible (and recommended) reserve and signal an exclusive space for PcD with plaque and floor markings ♿ — a simple measure that increases the autonomy of those who need it. These points already put Toca do Rato a few steps ahead. ✅

What still needs to be improved ✨

As the space is new, the inclusion journey is under construction. There is still no sensory room or regulatory area, nor tactile floor. The affordable menu (braille, large print and QR code compatible with screen readers) would also be welcome, as well as options designed for allergic and intolerant. The good news? The team is super open to adjustments and suggestions — and that makes all the difference. 🤝

If anyone in the group is sensitive to noise, our tip is to bring earmuffs 🎧 or choose quieter times. Ask table on the ground floor as soon as you arrive and, while you wait for the pizza, look for games of low complexity or with tactile resources (The embossed dominoes are a must!). If you have any allergies, it's worth talking to the staff beforehand — they've shown a willingness to help. adapt when possible.

Our impression 💬

Toca do Rato delivers what it promises: pleasant evening, good pizza, and lots of games. The spacious space, accessible bathroom, and corner protectors demonstrate genuine care for families. There's still room for a more comprehensive accessibility package, but seeing a new business listening to the community and willing to evolve That's exactly what we like to support. 💙
