🎡 Canela Ferris Wheel and Inclusion: our real-life experience and accessibility suggestions

Our visit to Canela Ferris Wheel, also known as SkyWheel Canela, it was at least... interesting! 😊 We want to share what the experience was like, especially from the perspective of an autistic person and accessibility for all audiences.

🎟️ Accessibility benefits for autistic people at the Canela Ferris Wheel

As an autistic person, I was entitled to half-price tickets. That was a huge plus! My companion was also entitled to the benefit, which makes it much easier for families wanting to visit tourist attractions in Serra Gaúcha with inclusion.

Another highlight was the priority queue. Not having to wait long periods in environments with a lot of sensory stimulation makes a big difference in the quality of the experience for people with autism and other conditions that require priority service.

🌡️ What was the sensory experience like inside the Ferris wheel?

Now comes the curious and very personal part: I'm afraid of heights! 😅 So maybe this wasn't the best choice for me, at least on this particular day. The Canela Ferris wheel is very high, which for some people might be incredible, but for others, it can cause emotional discomfort.

Even with the cabins' air conditioning, the heat was intense. We visited the attraction late in the afternoon, and the combination of altitude and temperature made everyone in our cabin a little uncomfortable.

A word of caution: if you or someone in your family (autistic or not) is sensitive to heights or sudden changes in temperature, it might be best to schedule your trip for a cooler time of day. Another point is that the ascent and descent are quite slow, which is great for those who enjoy contemplation, but can be difficult for those experiencing anxiety or sensory issues.

🌄 The view from the top of the Canela Ferris Wheel

On the other hand, the panoramic view is truly beautiful! You can see much of the city of Canela and the surrounding Serra Gaúcha. If you enjoy photography or contemplation, you'll definitely enjoy this part of the tour.

Even those afraid of heights, like me, can appreciate the beauty of the view. It's the kind of trip that can yield incredible photos and a lasting memory of the trip.

💡 Suggestions for improvements to sensory and physical accessibility

As a suggestion, it would be amazing if the Canela Ferris Wheel could create one or two sensory booths, with acoustic and visual isolation. One option would be to offer the option of closing the window or keeping it open, depending on the person's preference.

Another important improvement would be to have at least one wheelchair accessible cabin, with space for wheelchairs, grab bars and easy boarding.

Additionally, the inclusion of an option to audio description Information about the ride and the landscape could be very positive for people with visual impairments. A brief narration inside the cabin, explaining what's around, would make a big difference in the experience for those who are blind.

Finally, an entertainment screen with relaxing content could also be very helpful in case of a crisis during the trip.

✅ Conclusion: Is it worth visiting the Canela Ferris Wheel?

Our conclusion is that the Canela Ferris Wheel It's a very positive experience, especially due to the attention to physical accessibility and the benefit of half-price tickets for autistic people and their companions. However, it's worth paying attention to sensory factors, such as height, temperature, and stimuli during the tour.

If you or your autistic child struggles with heights, it might be a good idea to postpone this trip. But if the family is prepared, with the necessary adaptations, the visit will certainly yield fond memories.

And of course: if the Ferris wheel's management implements the suggestions for sensory cabins, wheelchair accessibility, and audio description, we're sure the experience will be even more inclusive and welcoming for everyone.
