🐒 BICA - Arruda Câmara Zoo and Botanical Park | Accessibility and Experience in João Pessoa 🌿
We recently paid a visit to the Arruda Câmara Zoobotanical Park, better known as SPOUT, located in João Pessoa, Paraíba. This experience was very fun and enjoyable 😊. Therefore, we want to share some important information about our trip, especially regarding accessibility and the general structure of the place.
✨ How was our visit?
The park offers a well-maintained environment, with many animals 🐢🦜 and beautiful spaces reminiscent of Paraíba culture. During the tour, we had the opportunity to observe several species and enjoy the peaceful, wooded areas 🌳. This makes the tour very enjoyable for families and visitors of all ages.
Plus, for those who enjoy capturing moments 📸, there are plenty of interesting photo spots. Meanwhile, kids can have fun in the play area with toys 🎠. For example, there are spaces with sculptures and details reminiscent of Brazilian fauna. This makes the park even more appealing for those visiting with little ones.
💰 Tickets and payment methods
The admission price is very affordable, which makes it easy for different audiences to visit. In my case, I got a discount for both myself and my companion 🙌. Plus, I had priority parking 🚗. However, it's important to note that the park only accepts payment in cash. In fact, it's not possible to use cards or Pix. Therefore, this limitation can be an important factor to consider when planning. Therefore, we recommend that everyone carry cash.
🥤 Food and snack options
During our visit, we noticed that the park doesn't offer many food options. We only found water available 💧, with no snacks or meals on site. Therefore, it's essential that each visitor plan ahead and bring what they consider necessary, especially when traveling with children or anyone who requires specific nutritional support. On the other hand, this limitation can be seen as an opportunity for those who prefer to bring their own food.
♿ Accessibility and inclusion
One point that deserves attention is the issue of accessibilityDuring our tour, we didn't observe any specific adaptations for people with physical or visual disabilities, or those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). However, the park offers spacious areas and wide paths, but it still lacks comprehensive accessibility features. Consequently, visitors with disabilities may face some difficulties. However, it is possible to navigate the area with the assistance of a caregiver. We didn't see any easily accessible ramps, tactile signage, or designated areas for sensory distress.
For this reason, we'd like to share some suggestions that could make BICA an even more inclusive space, ready to welcome diverse audiences. Furthermore, we believe these changes can benefit the entire community:
- ✅ Implement access ramps with grab bars in strategic areas of the park;
- ✅ Create floor markings that facilitates the orientation of people with visual impairments;
- ✅ Make available audio description and accessible materials about animals and attractions;
- ✅ Create a reserved space and adapted for people with ASD who may have sensory crises;
- ✅ Update ticket payment methods 💳, offering options via internet, Pix or card;
- ✅ Invest in professional training on accessibility and inclusion.
💡 Final considerations
The visit to the Arruda Câmara Zoobotanical Park - BICA It was a positive experience 🌟, with many pleasant moments and good opportunities to connect with nature and local culture. However, there are still areas for improvement, especially regarding accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities.
Finally, if you plan to visit BICA, our tip is to bring cash 💵 to avoid any unexpected surprises and to plan your meals, bringing water and snacks. This will ensure a more peaceful and fulfilling experience. We hope that in the future, the park will adopt measures to make the space more accessible and welcoming for everyone.
